I bought what my daughter and I thought to be 2 Barred Rock sexed chicks from the same lot back in late May.

As time has gone on, we noticed one has a darker feathering than the other. So we began to wonder if Olive (the lighter of the 2) was actually a Roo. Especially with the way the fluff has hung on. And the comb development was different.

Then I started to think it possible to have comb deformity so young….Then DING 💡
Olive’s comb is altogether different! She(he?) has a pea comb not a single. Olive is a different breed!?

I would love to know yalls thoughts. Do you think Olive is a Roo Barred Rock or a Pullet Dominicker?

How old are they? You have a Barred Rock and a Dominique. The BR had a single comb and the Dom had a rose comb.
It is good to have confirmation on the breed difference. It was a surprise. We are not sure on the age. The oldest BR is 6-7 weeks and the Dominique is at least 5. Getting the coop ready and predator safe. Hoping to get them outside soon ;)

You did ask for genders right? If so I would say the BR is a cockerel and the Dom is a pullet, not sure though because you don't know their exact age so post some more pics of them in a few weeks.

Yes gender and breed Especially of the Dom. Mainly bc she was sold to us as a BR.

So far the BR is very pullet like but will definitely post as time goes on.

Thank you again as I appreciate your input :)

I actually change my mind on the BR, I think it's a pullet. Barred breeds like BR and Doms the cockerels usually have much lighter barring then the pullets and judging by the barring of yours I would say they're both pullets. Take a look at this thread I created about the genders of my Doms.->

I will look at the thread :) I agree lol that’s part of why we started to question Olive’s gender. She was looking way lighter than the other. Lol but know we know she’s just a different breed altogether.

Most chickens of any breed will flock together. I always introduce new birds at night while everyone is asleep. They wake up together and there's not much confusion of the stranger in the nest. Roosters are typical feathered men, they like to be the head of the roost and have all the hot chicks, no room for sharing.
Tip: Roosters make great stew!!
