I have two 4-week-old Doms that I hatched from shipped eggs. I'm wondering if Doms are like some other breeds and only start showing pink in their combs at this age if they're cockerels. I'm really disappointed, because I wanted a couple Dom pullets, but I guess we take whatever we get, huh? If these are boys, they're going to a swap on Saturday. I don't need anymore stinkin' roos!

Do you have any pics of your birds?

Also the roo are a good bit lighter than the pullets, you should do a search to find pics to compare with, I posted a pic of a mature roo I bought as a chick from Mr. Bob Berry or aka bobsbiddies here on BYC, may be someone else here can get you some pics that are closer to the age of your birds.

If anyone has any pictures of Dominique chicks, I'd sure appreciate it. I have nothing to compare mine to, so have no idea whether they're pullets or cockerels. My DS and I both originally thought pullets, due to the spots on their heads and shadowing on their feet when they hatched, but the pink combs now have me confused. Can anyone help?

I'd post pics, but my battery charger is still MIA after the move, so I can't use my digital camera

Maybe hold off on assuming they are roos and getting rid of them. I have no pictures but doms are kinda slow about maturing. Is there more dark color in plumage than light. If so you may have pullets. It maybe not much help to you but I have a freind who was given 10 Dom pullets to him by a guy who thought he was giving away 10 roos.

I checked last night and both of them have bright red wattles coming in. Their feathers are also lighter, so I'm pretty sure they're cockerels. I've searched online for pics, but can't seem to find any that would be any help.

I wouldn't panic and get rid of them - can you post pictures? If the strain is a good pure one, the rooster's legs will be light (no dark) and the females will be darker blackish. The rooster's combs will grow faster and they are lighter. It may not be apparent at first, especially if you have never raised Dominiques before. But nonetheless, in my opinion I would keep them till at least eight weeks to make sure. MW

The chicks are 5 weeks and the pullets are 20 weeks. My adult roo is a barred-rock but the others are Doms. The babies are clearly roo or pullet by 4 weeks. The roos are showing the redness in their combs and have lighter colored feathers.
