Hello,

I’ve recently gotten back into keeping birds over the past year. At the moment, I’m locked in a bit of a war with raccoons and unfortunately have lost a few of my rarer birds. Even so, like many of you I suspect, I still have more chickens than I probably should plus my dad’s flock.

Right now I’m raising Japanese Onagadori, Le Flèche, Ayam Cemani (Indonesian, not European), and some Ayam Putih. I came back to this hobby because I missed it, and also with the hope of doing a little selective breeding to help fund my master’s degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. If I can sell a bird here and there, maybe I can chip away at those student loans while justifying this passion project.

When I’m not with the birds, one of my other hobbies is restoring antique books. I’m glad to finally join this community and look forward to learning from you all.

Hi, it's nice to have you here with us! You have some interesting breeds...I'd love to see a picture or two if you don't mind sharing. Thanks for joining!
Hi,
Sure thing! Here's a pair of my Ayam Cemani. I had more hens but a Raccoon got them so I'm back to square one.

Welcome to BYC. I am so sorry for the losses. Do you have a secure coop &/or run?
I will tag you over on the Texas thread. Please stop by and say hello.
Thanks!
Yes I have several coops/runs, some I've used for years. But all of the sudden I have super smart raccoons that are finding weaknesses. I've been trapping and relocating one raccoon every day or so. Kinda strange I haven't had this much trouble in the past.
