Hi! About 3 weeks ago I got 7 chicks from Ideal Poultry that are all supposed to be pullets, I have already found out that one is a cockerel. I am now getting suspicious that this Dominique is a cockerel too. The size of it’s comb looks quite large and it’s barring is darker compared to my other Dominique which I am sure is a pullet. I really hope it’s a pullet and not a cockerel, I do not have any room for two more cockerels as I already have two roosters. Someone say it’s a pullet! :fl The chick on the right in the photo with the two chicks is the one I’m suspicious about.

That’s a girl.
My dom girls looked the same at that age.

Dark barring indicates a pullet. In the third pic down with two birds, the one on the left looks like a cockerel to me.
Here’s some pics of the chick you think is a cockerel. I don’t think it is one because of the size of its comb, but maybe I’m wrong.

I should be a little clearer. The roo's can have, and often do have, some darkness or blackness on the legs, but it will look fade and sketchy. Where as the pullets will have a heavier darkness that will go down the front of their legs and continue on to the tops of their toes. You can also use the head spot to help sex them, but you need to do that within the first couple of days after hatching.

So this is not the Dominique I first created this thread for, its my other Dominique. I'm starting to think that it could be a cockerel, I think that because it's comb is starting to redden up, my other Dominiques comb is not. They are 6 weeks old.

The Dominique I think is a cockerel is on the left.
