Hello all again!
It's me again 🥰
One of the dominique hens has been getting pecked on by the wellsummer hen. Today I noticed it's eye was very teary and has a peck right under on the eyelid. She is miss judging things, I tried feeding her and she tried pecking at the food but could not find it as if that eye she can't see out of. She did eat once we put the bowl closer to her. She is sleeping all day, head down all the time and does not want to be outside. I will be keeping her inside so she won't be pecked on anymore, feed her and try to help her as much as I can.

Please give me advice on how to treat her eye and if something else is going on!

She also eats New Country Organic's layer feed.

Thank you for your help!😊

It is very very hard to see that her eye is hurt in this picture.

Edit she is very pale now I don't think it's an eye injury. I think something else is going on! pls help me! @azygous @Wyorp Rock !!!

I'm no expert but here's my take.

I've used both of these solutions for mine, my dog and cat's eyes. My chickens knew both well.

A tiny bit of himalayan salt in sterilised warm water fully dissolved, to cleanse. I have found this salt doesn't sting so much and it relieved irritation

Then after an hour I would use either coconut or caster oil.

It's said caster oil draws away pain and damage. And has been known by many to aid eye problems. It has worked on my dog and myself plus caster oil helped me with pollen and even a bug bite in my nose.

Good luck ❤️

Thanks Marie ! I will try to do this!:love

Aw poor baby :( I’m sorry!! I agree, saline rinse, warm compress. Teramycin ointment can be used on the eye for 7 days, you can find it at tractor supply.

Is her pupil reactive to light? How does it look in comparison to her other eye?
It Looks a lot bigger and more teary then the other eye.

If it is just an abrasion in her eyeball causing blindness and discomfort, it may heal and the blindness may only be temporary. I hope that is the case 🙏 be sure to look all over in her eye for any debris and rinse it well. Check her eyelids.

Eye injuries are extremely painful for humans, I imagine it’d be similar for other species; if her eyeball itself got pecked, the pain might be making her act odd. Ensure you’re helping her get access to her feed and water if she seems to be unable to see it.

I’m so sorry CC, praying she improves. I know she’s in good hands with you ❤️

I'm CC's brother. I have been watching this bird for a few hours. Here's what I observed:

She is "eating". She will open her eyes, take a peck or two of yogurt, swallow, then wipe her beak. I tried other foods and she will not take them. She picked up a small piece of bread and dropped it.

Her head keeps drooping. She can keep it up when her eyes are open but otherwise it droops very far down.

She is reacting to the other chickens. She did walk with them back to the tree. I promptly brought her back inside as I do not want her to get hurt. She did say something back to Agathae, her best hen when Agathae tried talking to her.

I noticed her eyes look quite watery as well.

She sat and slept for a good chunk of time (maybe a hour or so) and then stood up and slept some more.

If anyone has any ideas as to what could be going on and how to fix it, please let us know.
