Dominique hen with 1 Spur!

One of my 2.5 year old bantam dominique hens has grown a spur on one leg. Ive heard of some breeds with hens that sometimes have spurs but this is my first, and only on one leg lol. My other 2 dominique hens have yellow legs but this girl is absent or hetero for yellow skin. Shes is a great layer!

If this hen has always had white legs, that yes that is caused by what genes she has.

But if she had yellow legs when young and now has pale legs, then it's probably caused by her being such a good layer. All yellow-skinned hens have a tendency to lose the yellow as they lay eggs (the yellow is going into the egg yolks instead of their skin.) You can actually pick the best layers in a flock of yellow-skinned hens just by comparing leg color.

It is odd that she has just one spur, but chickens sometimes do strange things!

Thats a good tip to know my doms are the only yellow skinned breed I raise, but she has had white skin since birth. The other 2 lay very well too but their legs are pale yellow compared to other breeds Ive seen. Just thought it was cool how the 1 spur appeared this year
