Dominique? Is it a barred rock or not?

All my chicks were supposed to be Dominiques but this gal is different . While I've read Dominiques could have a rose or a straight comb originally I know the standard has been a rose comb for a very long time.So what are the odds of getting a Dominique with a single comb now and why does it still occur? Pictures 1-3 are of this bird in question but picture #4 is one of my others for comparison. They all came from Purely Poultry so I have no way of knowing where they actually came from.

Well, I'd say its a hatchery quality barred rock with very poor barring. How old?

Barred sex links are male black sex links. Its how you can tell the males and the females. The females are black at hatch and grow in black feathers with gold leakage on the neck and breast. Males are hatched black with a white spot on the head (indicating the barring gene) and feather out barred.

I agree. So since these are pullets, there are no Black Sex Links. I would assume she's a Barred Rock too. Ideally we'd be able to determine breed off of body type type but with hatchery birds there is so much variation that they don't really follow the standard they're supposed to be bred to :)

Thank you they're 18 weeks old ! Had I been got them for anything other than laying eggs I would have ordered from a better source Some have long tail feathers and others don't.I suspect I have a roo too.

Thanks ! Ironically the Doms I ordered run in the opposite direction every time I try to pick one up and the Barred Rock they slipped in my order stays under my feet. How did the oddball turn out this sweet ? Life has a way of throwing us some curve balls! LOL
