Dominique rose comb

I ordered from a hatchery, 5 buff girls and 5 australorp girls. I also ordered 20 mystery chicks. With my mystery chicks I received 10 that I believe are Dominique. ...they have the striping and what looks like a rose comb. I noticed that one chick is larger, lighter in color and its comb is bumpier than the others. Does this mean that it could be a roo? Can you identify the difference between the girls and boys by their combs at 6 weeks old?

From the sounds of it it's possible you have a cockerel in your chicks. Rose combs are a little bit harder to tell from a single comb.

I would be very happy with that. We are thinking of making a 3 rd coop. A ratio of 9 females to 1 roo would be nice. I guess I should just wait and see.

If you do a google search about sexing dominiques, you should get all the information you need. Males are lighter in color, have a larger, more diffuse white spot on the top of their head. their beaks and feet aren't as dark as those of the Dom pullets.
