I'm contemplating getting rid of my roo and I was wondering if he meets the SOP. I'm just seeing if he's high quality enough to sell as a breeder. Unless I keep him. The only issue is that he's an a**hole and kills any other cock that I put him in with (and I have 12 hens...) I got some cool cockerels from my batch of mutts that I want to keep, but I don't know what to do with him. He's a great breeder, too. A very horny chicken. I have 12 hens, yet every single egg that I've incubated this spring has been fertile. (I've had a hatch rate of 95%!)
Sorry for the mess in the background. Anyway, here's my boy:

Is he pretty? What do you think? I've got more pictures if needed.

I think he's gorgeous. Is he rough on the hens? Where are you?

The front half of him is an excellent example of the breed. Unfortunately the back and tail need more length. I wouldn't market him as particularly show quality.

Nope, he's never caused any problems with my girls or with their chicks. He's just very protective of them. He free-ranges during the day, and he's on all organic feed. He hates roosters & people. He often tries to fight me if I go anywhere near his girls.
I got him from my friend's farm. He was with another flock of hens, they were going to cull him for being too loud. He did great with the transfer, he integrated with my flock almost right away. I'm in Massachusetts.

Wish I were in Massachusetts. I'd take him in a heartbeat! Beautiful!

I agree, back and tail need more length. I guess he could be breeder quality.
