don’t you feel bad?

I'm actually offended by all the people saying grocery store meat is terrible and inhumane, blah blah blah. Not all of us that eat meat have the space or ability to raise our own livestock. I might be in the minority but I don't mind buying grocery store meat. And no, its not organic or grass fed. Call me what you want, but I have a family to feed on a small budget. And yes, my husband hunts deer, yum!!
Well it's being a hypocrite eating meat and saying you don't agree with people raising livestock to feed their families. I think everyone feels a bit insulted in this thread.

I think this thread has gotten more attention than it should have. There are emergency posts that we all should be helping with instead of being so judgy.

My ducks are pets, just as my cats and dogs are. I would never cull them. I'm also vegan, and have been for about 30 years.

However, I don't think eating meat is wrong. Factory farming, however is an entirely different story, in my opinion. The people who give their meat birds a good life before having one uncomfortable moment are being very moral, in my opinion.

It isn't the right choice for me, or, it sounds like, for you, duck mommy, but for people who chose to eat meat it definitely does the least harm.

Enjoy your drakes. <3
thank you

I raise and process my older laying hens. I will still buy a big pack of chicken breasts at the grocery store. We also hunt deer. We generally prefer venison over beef, actually. You've gotta to what you've gotta do to feed your family. (We do buy beef locally because the quality is so much better.)

No need to be offended, I buy meat at the grocery store too, but is it raised humanely? Most likely not, but that should be acknowledged. If anything I've learned the world is full of hypocrisy, myself included; it's just part of life.

I was going to say dog and cats aren't close to ducks at all. Dogs and cats aren't livestock like ducks, they're domestic pets. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Ducks were never intended to be pets that wear clothes or live in houses, but if people choose to do that then it is not my place to judge. Just like it's not the OPs place to judge us for feeding our families.

If you can't kill it, don't eat it...

While I understand the difference... keep in mind cultural differences when suggesting that dogs and cats are not considered food because they are, just as horses are... society in America frowns on it, but outside of the US - it is not and they are raised and eaten as if they are food.

Personally, to me it is as someone else stated - it's in the decision of the person raising the animal to decide if they are food or not. If you choose not to, that should be respected and if someone else chooses too - you should respect that as well and not judge them for how they choose to feed themselves.

Course that's in a perfect world, and we live in an imperfect one where people think they have the right to try to force their opinions and beliefs onto others. *hugs to all*

Heresy! (just kidding)

I've been to Asian countries where dog and cat was common fare, and I was offered horse in Europe (it was actually pretty tasty!). When in Rome...

I don't judge people eating as they do. To me it matters if my food has been raised well. (Also, you try explaining to a chinese dude why you shouldn't eat dog. You'll get laughed out of most chinese places that way. They take a very different approach to food.)
