Songster
I rescued 11 chickens about a month ago. I was told 9 of them were hens, and they had laid some eggs. 2 of them are Roosters, and I gave a friend the dominant rooster from the flock, and two of the hens. None of the hens are laying, including our original hen we have raised since she hatched in March. I am wondering if it's just an adjustment period, winter, or age that's an issue with laying. There were a few days that our original hen, Black Widow, loojed like she was getting ready to lay. Our rooster, who we have also raised since he hatched in March, was standing guard for her while she squatted on the ground. I was disappointed this did not result in an egg. Here are photos of our ladies, and hopefully someone here can tell me which, if any, will lay anytime soon. Pictures in order are: 1) Runa 2) Black Widow, our original hen born in March. 3) Leghorn, un-named for now 4) El Sol 5) Eclipse 6) Queenie 7) Ruth, who has several feathers missing. And 8) Stormy. Here are pictures of our boys, just so there is a complete introduction: Roo #1 is Omen, previously named Destiny when we thought he was a pullet and Rooster #2 is Romeo.
