i was feeding the horses and saw my rottie loose chasing the chickens. so i dropped the fork and started running after here. of course i was in a panic yelling at the top of my lungs( not that that would help i dog with one thing on its mind.) to stop. we are talking chasing in 20 about 15 week old pullets around. i picked up a stick and tried to catch her. she was in like a trance, like all the brains were sucked out of her head and she was clueless to the rest of the wolrd. she got one of them in her mouth and i kept hitting her til she dropped it. it got away and i got here inside. i was about to kill her standing there looking at me with feathers coming out of her mouth!!!!
you are wondering where the husband comes in on all this. well he put her on the run.... she got off. he was in his car getting ready to leave while i am chasing her all over the yard, around the coop and threw neighbors yard...to busy to stop and ask him for help, thinking he would be there any second after hearing me screaming(to the point it still hurts) BUT no he drove out the drive way to work!!!! can you believe that?
the chicken hide for awhile. well all of them did. i have her inside down in the basement, in a cat carrier. almost couldn't tell she just went through that til i saw her limping. she looks like she was plucked on a small section on her back but other feathers cover it. she was limping be cause there is a inch hole under here leg. i cleaned it and put antibiotic cream on it. i put paper towels down instead of shaving because i figured it would stay a little cleaner and out of the wound. she is just hunkering down. i think that is good cause it keeps her wound clean and closed...
i am thinking if other chickens that are ripped open can make it there is a great chance for her. wish her luck and quick healing. thanks for listening.
