I started off with eight hens. One was eaten by a fox and another stopped moving, eating or drinking and was put down by the vet (we all thought it was down to old age). We bought two new hens about two months ago and after all the normal squabbling they have settled in really well. Yesterday, one of the new hens stopped moving. She wouldn't eat or drink and would only walk a few steps at a time. Her cluck didn't sound right so we separated her from the others yesterday evening. She died in the night. We don't know what is causing this or if there is any way to prevent it. Her symptoms matched lots of different illnesses but both hens had had full vaccinations. Does anyone know what this is?
