My ducks are my favorite. So much personality and they are smarter. They pay attention and seem to understand a few associative words already at 6 weeks. One day, I swear I watched them get bigger in front of my eyes.

Agreed. I am duck-crazy and finally gave in to getting some chickens so we can have fresh cruelty-free eggs (tired of paying $12 a dozen, yikes), but I doubt they will compete with the ducks personality wise. Even the best behaved, most intelligent chickens we know are dolts in comparison. Our ducks know their names in addition to several basic commands, play soccer, and learned to tap on their food bin when they are hungry. Geniuses!!

Apologies to all the chicken lovers... I am horribly biased ;)

I love that they play soccer. My dog Maggie plays might give that a try, once I'm brave enough to let them out of the pen.

I Love my ducks but I like chickens better I'm getting rid of 3 hybrid ducks. But you guy are right they have a lot more personality.

I've always been a duck kind of girl. They're just way too entertaining, and they're always hilarious the way the flup about the yard all pigeon-toed!

Your ducks play soccer? Explain pretty please? I have two almost 3.5 month old Pekin, Gumbo and Stewie and 4 3 month old mallards, Huey, Duey, Louis and Saffron.

I do hope we get hens with nice personalities that we can cuddle... but that will make the ducks very jealous! The poor dog endures all sorts of abuse already :p

They have a soccer ball that they love and will kick and push it back and forth... trying to teach them to head for a "goal" but that will take more training. LOL. They also take this ball into the pond and roll it around on the water.

Not my duck, but check out Moxy!

The most impressive thing is she doesn't poop the entire time ;)
