is there any reason why i don't see bators with a foil lining? I thought foil helped keep in the heat so i thought i would see that, but i haven't. Is there something about foil that i don't know?

This is totally off the top of my head but I'm guessing the foil would cause temp regulation problems. As well as maybe condensation issues. That being said I have nothing to base that on other than my own craziness.

lol! Well, i haven't had any condensation issues or temp issues really using my home made incubator with the foil along the inside. BUT then again i guess i won't really know if it works that well until hatch day comes. I was just curious because i didn't see anyone else's bator with foil along the inside and i thought maybe it was some serious issue associated with it.

I was waiting for someone brave enough to stick their neck out on this one before I put in my $.02 worth. I think you are right. The foil would reflect infra-red, which would warm the eggs, and not the air, making it hard to regulate the temp. The thermometer in my brooder says it's only 80 degress, but I know it's closer to 95, because the thermometer reflects the I R from the heat bulbs and does not read true.

I don't have any experience with foil in the incubator. I do know that foil is like a big neon sign saying "PECK ME" to chickens. Make sure the first hatched don't get to it while waiting for the rest to hatch is the best I can say.

Also, foil doesn't keep in heat- it reflects it.

So i can take it off? Im only on day 2 of incubation
