You could always do a gradual transition. Raise the animal, then send it to the butcher, or ask a neighbor to process for you before attempting any butchering process at home. I wasn't sure how I would feel about processing chickens myself, but it's okay. And I love knowing where my food comes from! I absolutely hate hate drinking water, so drinking enough water is hard for me. And staying hydrated is crucial to your health especially when you are doing extra. I need all the reminders I can get.
