Any ways my DH and I each have some favorites and I am having such a hard time trying to figure out how I'll chose which to keep. I am planning on keeping two roosters and right now we have either 5 or 6

I ordered 5 cockrels and 10 pullets but there was 1 extra sent so I'm thinking it is probably a male.
I love them all and no two are alike. I don't wanna chose

How old before they will start to take care of the hens, right now it is each for his or her own when treats are coming.
One of the boys was pecking my toes today as I was handing out meal worms. I shooed him away as I didn't think that was ok for him to do, I don't want him thinking he can do that when he is big that could hurt :S .

One of my favs is a bit smaller than the other roosters should that cancel him out of the running?

What traits or looks did you look for in the roosters you kept?

Thanks for any info and insight

Primarily, not aggressive toward people and good caretaker of his flock. Takes months to sort those traits out, though. Then, if there is still a choice, I would go with the largest.

My chickens are 10 weeks old. I have one very doninant one that I think is a roo but its still developing, no crowing. My smallest one is a WC Black Polish. It is a definite roo and has been crowing for a couple weeks. I think it takes them a while and sometimes they have to figure out who is at the top, because it has changed a few times for us. So I would wait and see. Plus you never know what might happen where you might lose one or two. I just lost one I thought I wasn't too attached to, and have been heartbroken for a few days.

I hatched some chicken eggs last year and unfortunately we got about 85% Cockerels. I couldn't decide either until they got older. Then I watched them to see which ones were the most aggressive towards the hens and gave those away. I kept a couple of the more docile ones.
