Its in book 'the complete book of Self-Sufficiency'

It says you use a normal bread dough, and then you add the following.
56g melted butter
1 egg
56g sugar
Milk instead of water
0.5kg flour
14g dried yeast.
Leave to rise, and then kneed it vigorously, then again leave for 20 minutes.
You then need to deep fry them, drain and dust with sugar.
We just eat the jam with them.
This is a slight abbreviated version of it, but it will give you the idea anyway.

Sounds like beinets...
 
I googled them, and they do look like it.
But this very traditional English book calls them dough nuts.
Maybe different countries call them different things?
Possibly. Beniets are rooted in French/Dutch pastry. Britain was a melting pot of cultures
 
Are we back to 🍩 now?
Plain ol simple glazed donuts, cinnamon rolls or twists only for me.
