I went down to Del's, the local feed and supply store, with my mind on getting 10 Salmon Faverolle hens for my SAE project in FFA. I was going to use them for showing at fairs. I learned they were calm and make great pets as well as show birds, so we ordered. When they got here, they were so cute! A week later, I saw 3 of the chicks had black feathers. Not good, they were to be cream and salmon feathers. I look at pictures and articles on the computer. I found out they were roosters. Not what I wanted but thought I could breed them and hopefully make more money than selling eggs. Now they are 3 months old. I saw 2 of my hens had no fluffily cheeks with no feathered feet, also one rooster. I looked up all breeds with 5 toes, the only breed that looked like my chickens were Dorking's. As I keep looking, I find out they are endangered and are very valuable. I only ended up with 5 hens I wanted, but since I found out I got Dorking's, was great. I love my chickens, they follow me around and do lots of things with me, they even help take care of my vegetable garden( if they only eat the bugs, that would be nice. But they eat the plants, my peppers look like sticks in the ground now.) I am trying to teach them a few tricks. I tap my lap, they all come to jump on my lap. If I tell them it's time to go in, they all go into there coop. I will try to teach them to jump through a hoop next. I just can't be leave I got Dorking chicks, I think I hit the jack pot.
