Dorkings, Dorkings, Dorkings!!!

Dorkings are delicate for the first few weeks... they like a little more heat than most, and a little bit of vitamins in the water goes a long way. I think that's why they're so rare now... eggs don't really travel very well in the mail, and the chicks need extra TLC, but they are SO worth it.

Oh great. I just ordered expensive eggs.

Congratulations Becky! Please post more pics when the babies aer all fluffly - and as they grow. I'm drooling over adding Dorkings next year...

Hi I'm a Dorking Girl too - Here are some pics of my colored & red chicks from this spring - my first hatches - uh EVER!

11 Colored: Hatched week of May 18th

Brown SC Hen:

Birchen SC Hen:

( peeled this one out of her shell, she thinks I'm her mum)

Brown Red RC Roo:

(his name is paprikash, as we are hungarian

And my of my 6 Reds: Hatched week of June 15

Butterscotch:

(too little for me to tell for sure - but I think he's a Roo!)

So 17 all together, I plan to create 2 breeding pens using these birds, to sustain my DH and I with eggs and meat. No showing or anything fancy. I'm planning to cull based on size, health and temperment.

One of my dorking hens is the best Mom ever. She is raising 12 chicks only two she hatched on her own. One of them is a hatchery bought Dorking.
I think they are delicate wihtout their Mom to raise them. I have raised them with and without a hen and the hen raised chicks seem to be stronger.
