Dose temp matter from being laid to incubator?

I have seen some threads about how much time you have to incubate your eggs after they have been laid, but my question is about temp? What is the magic number with egg tempature? How cold is to cold? For instance I Rarely get to my eggs when they are warm
To the touch due to working 8-5 and my hens lay in the middle of the day, can I still put them in the incubator and have success or am I better off getting warm eggs? So what's your thoughts on temp and time from being laid to going into the incubator???

The magic number seems to be 28.4*F for egg temperature, if the egg itself gets below that it seems they probably will not hatch, Brinsea has a nice article on temps in general, and the other two have charts of the best storage temps depending on the the age of the egg, they actually recommend storing eggs a day or two before setting for the best results.
