hi
i am collecting eggs from my hens to put in the bator
and this morning one of them layed an egg that is mutch bigger than the others, i think it could be a double yolker:/
if i put it in the bator would it hatch?, and if it did would there be one or two and would it/they be deformed?

thanks.

It may be a double yolker--the large ones often are. It used to be the common wisdom that double yolkers never hatch, but several people on these boards have proven that wrong. It is still true that they usually don't. When they do hatch, they usually need help. And they are always twins.

Personally, I don't set them because I find it too heartbreaking to have an egg reach maturity and then die in the shell, so I avoid it as much as possible. But it would be an interesting experience, and you might have success with it.

most of what I've read on here says a double yolker won't hatch and if it does the chicks will be deformed. It has been done but apparently very very rare. Part of me says try it, why not. The other part says its a little cruel if you know there's a good chance they will just suffer.
