Hey there!
My chickens have been laying eggs for the past 4ish weeks now (🎉) and with me being a new chicken mom, I want what’s best for them and I’d never turn down advice🙅🏼‍♀️For the past week, one of my Barred Rocks has been laying a double yolks. It’s been a one week since she has started and I already have 4. Should I be excited and count this as a blessing or should I be worried? I know she is still new to laying but surely it shouldn’t be good for her laying them so back to back, right? Also, should I be concerned of a prolapse if this keeps up?
Thanks so much in advance!!
Picture is attached to show how HUGE it is😅

Welcome to BYC! I wouldn’t be to worried. I hear it’s very common with new layers. If it continues for a very long time then i would be a tad more concerned

Of course, a prolapse can happen any time, so i do like to occasionally check down there to make sure things are okay, especially if they are acting off. If you’d like, you can check her every now and then to make sure she doesn’t get a prolapse sense she’s new to laying but i wouldn’t be to worried!

Also, congrats on the new layer!

Yay!!!

Enjoy it while you have it. She’ll settle down at some point. Maybe drop a double yolk from time to time for the first six months.

I wouldn’t worry. My RSL and BSL did the same for 8-10 months.

No worries at this point, enjoy the double yolkers, they don't typically last more than the first few months and I'd expect that they will get more sporadic. Just keep an eye on her, but all should work itself out. Make sure she has access to oyster shells just in case she finds that she needs more than what is in the feed.

Beautiful egg colors in your basket!

Perfect! I will be sure to give extra oyster shells :)
Thank you so much! They are tasty, but just about so pretty you don't want to eat them! Lol! I've learned real quick that they add up FAST! LOL!

Oh yeah, they add up quick, and then the next thing you know your running low 🤣 two weeks after that you'll be swimming in eggs again.

Have you blown any eggs out to save? That's a fun way to keep the pretty or unique eggs. I have a little picnic basket on my kitchen counter as decoration with special eggs. First eggs, holy cow big eggs, spotted eggs, and so on 😊

THIS is the best idea! I had a little fairy egg and I think it's just the cutest thing on the face of the earth! Lol! That would be a good way to keep it and use it as decor! Thanks for the idea!!😍
