Just broke down and started eating our girls eggs...
It was very tough for me to crack the first one...
I know it sounds crazy...

Anyhow 10 out of the 11 I cracked were double yolked...
Is this normal for one hen to lay that many with double yolks...
They were all from the same RSL...
She has been laying since 12 weeks old...

Often, when a hen first starts laying, especially your RSL breeds, they will lay double yolkers. That's really exceptional to have so many though, I think. I have several hens, and I get some really huge, double yolkers, but not that many!

You're lucky!

I'm a newbie to this chicken obsession, but my golden comet, Emma, just started laying last week and her second egg was a double yolk and the egg itself was HUGE! I was concerned until someone replied with the same type of information and that golden comets may lay bigger eggs.

Such fun! I'm sure you're a proud Mama of your girls!

Is this the same with BSLs? I have one that started squatting a couple of weeks ago and should be laying any day now...she has shown a lot of interest in the other ladies while they are laying and keep going in and out of the nesting boxes.
