Can somebody tell by looking at the comb and wattles whether this pullet is close to laying? (She's a 6 months old kadaknath/svarthona).

It is much more definitive to check the space between the pointy pelvic bones.
I once had an orpington that never grew a large or bright red comb, yet she was a prolific layer.
If there is a 2 or more finger width between the pelvic bones, laying is likely imminent. If it is less than that, an egg can't pass.
