dougs broken toe

my roo broke his toenail today. Went out to check on them after work and found the coop full of blood. After looking around for a bit I notices Doug breast full of blood I thought he must have cut himself very badly. Took him inside wash his breast and could find nothing. Then I see the very tip of his toenail was missing. Who knew a toenail could bleed that much? Cleaned that up, put on some bag balm, put a band aid on ,dryed him off and back out to the coop he went . So far he seems ok. anything more to watch out for? advice ? thanks

What a handsome boy! I'm sure he will be fine. Next time you change the bandage put neosporin on it. The kind without the pain killer ingredient. It's toxic to chickens. Bag balm is good but a chickns feet are the perfect breeding ground for an infection and the antibiotic ointment will do a world of good.

He looks like a trooper and I'm sure he will be fine.

Just to be safe I would some neosporin around the spot where the nail broke off.
