Last night, my 1-year old female ringnecked was sitting at the base of a dim staircase (a place she has never sat before). I did not see her and walked by. She was startled, panicked, and flew into the wall once and then again. Lots of feathers were lost and she was dazed.
Now (the next morning) her wing is hanging low and she is limping a bit on that same side. I attached a video (sorry it's the wrong way).
Otherwise, she is pretty much acting normally: eating fine, nibbling on my hand (which she always does), and she will place sticks in her nest when I give them to her. She is spending a lot of time preening/picking at the wounded wing. She is also sitting down, whereas she used to mostly stand. A few times, she has fluffed up, but she is not in a lasting dazed and fluffed way.
The local bird vet charges $300 for an emergency appointment today. Do you think that is necessary?
I feel sooo sorry for startling this lovely dove.
I hope someone can provide guidance.
Many thanks,
Jenna
