Dove with possible broken wing.

Hellooooo friends,
:frow

Just an update on the Laughing dove...

Today is Day 18 that the Laughing dove has been with me. Everything has been running smoothly and the dove's flying ability is progressively improving with each day that goes by. Yesterday evening it very skillfully managed to evade me with a side-ways fly-by, although it needed to rest its wing afterwards; so I see that as proof that it is about ready to be set free and now my question is how much longer should I wait, also considering what the injury looks like at present?...

Three days ago, Saturday, I asked a member of my family to help me to take photographs of the dove's injury that is on the underside of its wing, as I need the extra pair of hands to operate the camera while I safely handle the bird while it is upside-down.
Here are the results...

The "lump", which sticks out, is about the size of a pea.

The top-side of the wing is looking much better...

Any opinions will be helpful to make my decision.

So, the day after I made my last post on this thread, the Laughing dove began wanting to get out of the bird loft. It ran back-and-forth along the wire mesh, flapping and looking agitated. This continued on into the next day so the decision was made to set it free before it hurt itself trying to escape. Here are the pictures...

In the bird loft with the door open.

Wing still dropped but doing much better.

Jumping to the lower perch, closer to the open doorway.

Bracing itself for the launch to freedom.

And we are off.

2024-12-12 Laughing dove day 20 pic 6.jpg

Wide open wing.

2024-12-12 Laughing dove day 20 pic 7.jpg

Out the loft.

2024-12-12 Laughing dove day 20 pic 8.jpg

Heading for the roof of our house.

2024-12-12 Laughing dove day 20 pic 9.jpg

Successfully on the roof.

The Laughing dove then walked in a small circle, I am guessing to gage the direction, and then flew off straight Southwards without any apparent difficulty.

It was with me for a total of 20 days.
