I did not mention I hand raised my male...I picked him up at one of my old jobs as a barely feathered squab. He would have been killed if I didnt take him so thats how I ended up with my first pigeon. We bought the female at an auction and I have no idea how she was raised. She is so beautiful and I love her so, but she really seems to disdain me! Maybe because her boyfriend is still in love with me..

  2. Don't mean to butt in, but the terms doves and pigeons can be used interchangeably - ie, dove = pigeon and pigeon = dove. No, ringneck doves and Indian fantail pigeons aren't the same thing, but you can call a ringneck dove a ringneck pigeon and an Indian fantail pigeon an Indian fantail dove.
But, doves (like ringnecks) don't really have a homing ability, unlike, well all pigeons pretty much (I've yet to meet one who didnt recognize an area as home and preferred to stay there).
And an Indian fantail is usually referred to as a pigeon. I miss my fantails :( I remember my last one was killed, and her mate got off the nest (a feral rescue) and I thought since the eggs were cool they were dead - kills me to know I might've been able to save them, as the feral has since passed too :hit

As for doves vs pigeons, I've heard ringneck doves are very sweet and gentle, but I prefer mah pigeons - I'm like Hokum Coco, gimme a good homer over a ringneck ;)
Btw, Hokum, your daughter sounds very smart, I'd probably be friends with her :D (I'm around her age, too)

This guy is a PERFECT example of a 'tame' cock. Come within ~2" of his face you're bit. Some sort of swallow, got him from the pound.

Nice birds. I found some links that can help you with your old english tumbler's eyes:
