I found doves to be something that just made me want white homing pigeons. In my defense it is the truth.

Nice birds. I had the chance years ago to have 'rollers' but it just wasn't what I wanted. For the last several years we have talked about white homers and will finally take the plunge later this month to start on this new world.

I'll post about doves...lol. I am considering a pair of ring necks, because I need to be able to keep them inside, and doves adapt better to indoor living and exercise than pigeons. (I grew up with pigeons-my dad raised them...and I LOVE them)

I live on there north shore of Long Island, and there's a reason we have no wild pigeons-Red Tailed Hawks. I'd hate to lose a beloved pet to a predator, so Doves it will have to be. (I have a chicken coop-a huge one, and a turkey pen-again, pretty huge, and on my porch, I have quail...so my husband who has been very good about building me all of these things has just said no way on a pigeon loft!)

I keep ring neck doves and also various fancy pigeons. I love them all.

The ring neck doves are much more relaxed and lazy, loving to be petted and tickled, and happy just to sit on my hand or shoulder for a long time getting lots of attention.

The fancy pigeons are more active, they are much more bossy and pushy.. they will fly all over me for peanuts and its like I am getting attacked... having lots of scratches on my arms from them clawing up my to get to the food!!! They are more interesting to watch as they go about their activities of displaying to each other, flying and clapping their wings over my house roof .. and all squashing into their plastic bath tub.

My ring necks love to get a light shower with a hose when I place their cages on the laws to get some sun. They will lay out and open up a wing at a time to get wet, then lay about in the sun to dry off. They live the life of luxury!

Oh, I love ring necks. Don,t know why more people don't keep them. Wonderful birds!
