A Skook in Central Florida
I've been lurking on this site for years, dreaming of getting some chickens. We built a chicken tractor and bought one chicken, then two chicks, then built an identical tractor for our guinea pig.(who got on well with the chicks but not the older chicken) That lasted all of two weeks. Yesterday we came home to two piles of feathers(chicks), one dead Rosie and one dead guinea pig. Dogs. I was prepared for hawks, owls, raccoons but who'da thunk that two little lost doggies would wipe everything out in one day? So now, I'm a little hesitant to start over, it'll take some time, but we've been bitten by the chicken bug!

Were your chickens in a run? We lock ours in tightly at night and open the coop every morning and let them into the run. The only time we allow them to free range is when we are at home. We never leave them out unattended. We live in the country so a stray dog running loose happens once in a while. I have my son's pellet gun/bb gun ready and on hand if needed. Fortunately I've never had to use it.
Sooooo......GO GET SOME MORE CHICKS AND HAVE FUN!!
