My 12 almost 13 year old hen went down a few days ago. I examined her for eg binding, swabbed her throat, found no worms in her poo under my microscope, and came to the conclusion she may have hurt her foot.
One leg works fine, the other the foot she is holding curled, and can't put weight on it. She has been eating up until this am, she didn't take her BF like she has been. It's hot, and I'm about to move her indoors to keep her cool.
Is panting with the beak open a sign of stress and Injury as well? She isn't coughing or shaking her head or gasping for air. But I can hear a tiny sound when she is breathing today I couldn't before.
This doesn't sound like gapeworm right?

These symptoms occured with my hen who got a reroductive disorder, I wouldnt be surprised if a hen that old got it either.

Panting is a normal response to heat. If she’s not coughing or sneezing and no eye ear nose mouth discharge, probably not respiratory. Try seclusion in cool air, giving some nutritious treats, examine the leg and hip in detail, maybe something will become more obvious. They can get arthritis with age, and gout anytime, or injury from coming down from a height, could be lots of things,…

She is inside in the cool bathroom. Today is the first time since she went down she won't eat anything at all, even her raspberries.
I examined her again this morning. There is strength in the hip to pull her leg and move it around, but her foot is curled. There is no swelling or heat or visable injury.
No sneezing coughing runny eyes or nose. Just a little rattle now today when she breathes and she won't eAt even her favorite foods.
She is almost 13, hasn't laid in a long time, I don't think. But checked to see if she had a stuck egg, and have done everything I can think to help her. I am just wondering if it is age, and there is nothing to be done. Either way asking here and talking with all the nice people is very helpful.

Huh..wonder if it’s neurological..could she have had a stroke? Pupils same size? Can she uncurl or move foot on her own?

I'd be concerned about Marek's if the leg becomes paralyzed.
They said the leg was movable..a 13 yr old..I’d be thinking geriatrics, like stroke, blood clot, something neurological..or some injury..arthritis..gout..

Have you added any new chickens recently? Can you get human vitamin B complex tablets and give her 1/4 tablet daily, crushed into a little food or a spoonful of water? That might help if she has curled under toes and a riboflavin deficiency. Mareks could be a possibility if she had recently been exposed.

We haven't had any new chickens for years. And the ones we have were born here.
Her pupils are the same size, she can move the foot, and grabs my hand with it now, which she wasn't doing the day I found her.
I have the vitamins, I'll see what I can down her.

She doesn't want her normal feed. Should I be worried about her eating too many other things or just give her what she will eat at this point?
Berries squash frozen corn bugs when I take her out and the occasional mealworms.
