I’m so terribly sorry!! I would have made that same choice , had I been in your situation. Make sure you sanitize the brooder and all objects very well. You gave them love and they were very lucky to have been given a caring human

Well we were too afraid to do the suggestions of my father and neighbor, all long time chicken people (cut head off or break neck) so I found another way online using a plastic container, baking soda and white vinegar. It created a carbon monoxide chamber that once we place the lid the chick almost instantly fell over. We left the lid on and will just bury it in that.

I did not let myself get attached to these little ones because of all the red flags from the jump.

If it had been one of my 13 others that are 16 weeks old, my dad would of had to drive down.

I think baking soda and vinegar create carbon dioxide, not monoxide.
(What it's called does not change the fact that it works--just helps if anyone is trying to find more info by googling.)

You are correct! It was still hard to do, at least we didn’t have to actually do “it” with our hands
