My mallard drake has recently started going into my hens coop and eating their food. Originally this wasn't a problem because he is scared of the chickens and I don't think he realized he could go in, but a few weeks ago my hen Downey had chased him in and now he walks in and out as he pleases. I have been told that layer can hurt drakes but I could be wrong. If anyone has an idea of how to stop him from doing this or if this is bad for him I'd appreciate help.

We have some different opinions about that. I checked with my vet and she seems to think that for most drakes, it is not a problem. But some folks are very concerned about it.

I wish I could give you a hands-down unanimous opinion about it. Many people let their drakes eat layer with no ill effect, drakes living a reasonably long duck-life. Many are more cautious.

Alright I'll just keep an eye on him and see if he seems suck or something. Thanks.
