I identified two of my ducks to be drakes because they had obvious drake feathers, but just today i noticed on of my "hens" Titch has on small feather in her tail feather sticking up, but it doesn't look the same as my other tow drake's feathers. Is this just a molting tail feather or is my hen a drake.
If so is three drakes and two hens a bad ratio for breeding season? I am willing to take it down to two and two, but would love to keep all five.

I cant keep up with mine. They like to hide their drake feathers, and then spring it up the next day. I can tell the difference now between my ducks now even though they do this. I know for sure I have 2 females, and 4 males. I wish it were the other way around. In the middle of winter my ducks started laying for the first time and then the males started ganging up on the females. The males started ripping out the girls feathers on their neck so bad that it was just wrinkled skin and scab. I had to separate them for 2 weeks and then slowly reintroduced them back together. Since then they have not picked on the girls. Id like to say they learned their lesson but hopefully that is true! I will find out soon because they stopped laying when I took the heat lamp out but just started laying 3 days ago. I know that I need to get a few more females now because I cant give up the males. I hatched them and now Im too attached. As much as I dont need more ducks I have to get at least one more female for now if they start beating up the girls again.
