I have 6 female ducks and one drake and they have all been getting along great. The young ducks were mama hatched in the summer and they have since matured. They have always gotten along. For the last few months my drake has had a surge of spring hormones and has been a bully to the chickens that dare to come into his pen, so we’ve been working on keeping them separated better.

Now for the last few weeks he has been bullying 2 of the younger females and chasing them away from the group. He is also doing a lot of dominating behavior without mating them. They aren’t getting any feathers torn out that I can see. He is the most aggressive with chasing them away when the group is out free ranging, things are better when they are all in the pen together. He seems to want them to stay behind in the pen. I have this strange idea that he wants them to sit on eggs. I’m just wondering why he’s suddenly behaving this way.

The females are very distressed to not be allowed to join the free range group

It may be best to put a small cheap fenced area inside your duck run for him to have time outs
Yeah I kinda want to do that. Today he was just ostracizing one. She wasn’t allowed to leave the run, he kept chasing her back in. I really wonder if she’s not letting him mate. There was 3 he was mad at and now it’s down to one. They were probably on strike
