Last year we got three ducks on CL and two turned out to be drakes. These two are the pair-bonded pair and the duck came a little later (but before we knew first two were boys).

We plan on getting more ladies this year when we can order females to be sure we're getting ducks. Up until this last month, there've been no problems.

Recently, the Pekin drake has been pursuing his buddy, a Rouen. Both boys seem to ignore our single gal and the chickens entirely. My fear is that even with new ladies, our Pekin will keep showering his, uh, affection on the Rouen bestie.

Anybody ever have this problem? More importantly, can the Rouen get hurt if, er, Mr Pekin catches him? Thanks for any thoughts!

It's pretty normal for ducks to mate whatever duck is available regardless of gender. They should be fine, if they are both males he might be chasing away the rouen because he is competition for the lady. I'd probably add about 5-7 more female ducks that are a similar size.
