Hello all...

So for several years, we've had backyard chickens. Last fall we got a pair of Pekin ducks, and the drake has grown up now. Problem is he has this attraction to our hens. Our rooster doesn't seem to mind. This drake has pulled out almost all the neck feathers on a couple of our hens. Is there a way to deter this activity? Will they cross breed to make chukens, or whatever? Any suggestions?

Sounds like he needs some more girl ducks to me

We're having the exact same problem - 2 pekin ducks(one male/one female) and 4 buff orphin. hens raised together since day 2 - and now since the drake pekin has come of "age" he is busy mating with the female pekin and 2 of the hens. One of the hens has almost all of her neck feathers pulled out from when she hasn't been able to escape his "attentions" and the other hen refuses to come down from the loft area(because she won't run from the drake) if the pekin drake is nearby so if you won't run, then hide is her philsophy.
They all share a common run and co-op so....help!

Drakes have a "cork-screw" shaped penis that actually enters the body of the duck. Chickens are not anatomically prepared for this intrusion and can be killed or forced to proplase when mated by a drake. The damage to the feathers on the back of their necks is the least of your worries. If you do not want your hens killed, seperate them from the drake.

Put him in the pot. I had a drake All he wanted to do was >>do what ever would sit still. I had a hen (duck) on a nest an he was trying to fight her off the nest an she was mashing the eggs an he wouldnt get off her , well I got my 22 an let him have it he was a nasty drake (pekin). I had 3 other hens.

I have the opposite problem. My very confused RIR rooster has added duck hens to his list of things to hump.

Pekin drakes will mate with anything that has something he can stick it in....

I'd say the best thing would be to remove him from the chickens if possible or (as stated) make him the Easter Dinner.
