I had a drake mount my hen (chicken). I caught him and stopped him but she was already injured. It looks like a prolapsed vent. I put her in warm water to help her lay her egg and cleaned her up. I let her sit alone for a couple hours in a warm rubbermaid tub. I then gave her more warm water to sit in and cleaned her up again. I tried to put the parts back in but she pushed against me and I didn't want to force anything. She actually fell asleep in the bathtub with her head on my hand . Anyway, after my arm became dead from hanging over the tub, I moved her back to the rubbermaid tub.

She is pooping but it's very runny. She is tired and lethargic obviously. She has had a little water but no food. I want to give her the best chance at making it through this disaster, but I'm not sure what else to do for her.

The drake, btw, is now separated in a pen and is leaving this weekend. He has two females of his own and has never bothered the chickens before so this was a surprise.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I had a girl with a prolapsed vent. It took nearly a week and a half before it stayed in on its own. I kept her in the closet to shorten her days so she wouldn't make any eggs, and pushed it back in a couple times a day. I could tell it was very uncomfortable for her. I used Preparation H to calm any swelling, and used lubricant when I pushed it in. I also did daily epsom salt baths and supplemented calcium (tums) to help with the muscle contractions.

I got an anti inflammatory cream for her and I will try to push it back in again. I gave her another warm bath this morning and she really likes that, but she isn't really drinking much anymore so I am not holding out much hope at this point.

I will just continue what I've been doing and see what happens. Thanks for the help.
