Black duckling was hatched first week of July. Daddy was a black Swedish there were 2 blue wing and 2 peking in the flock as potential mamas.

I see no curly tail feathers but I swear there is green iridescent to that head. I do see patterning on the wings in the sunlight so I'm guessing the blue wings as mama.

He's in the middle walking toward the right here.

All of my black ducks have green on their heads. The drakes just have a lot more green. I would personally voice sex the duck. If it has a loud quack, then it's a girl. If its voice is low and raspy, it's a boy.

That's what I was wondering. The Daddy was killed before I got this group. So I've never seen a dark duck of either gender except this one.

I've had male and female black swedish ducks. I agree with Georgina. All of them have green on their heads however the males are more pronounced. They have purple on their wings and back tail feathers. Although my drake has turned extra pretty green and purple these last few weeks. He's around 4 months old.

When we were holding to trim primary flight feathers it was raspy but I've heard my obvious females rasp when stressed. I will try and make time to go sit with them and listen. I only tried because it is still young. I watched my first peking female get 3 feet off the ground when she was this age. 2 months later she can't get 3 inches. I figure better safe then sorry with flight of newly acquired ducklings.

Let me know what the voice sounds like
