My Muscovy ducks have been out free ranging for about an hour. I just checked on them and found my 3 year old drake, Jack, is panting heavily. He does get subtly pushed around by the 2 year old drake - not chased or physical contact that I have seen. I read over a previous post so checked Jack over and don't see any signs of injury, swelling, etc. It has suddenly become much hotter here with record breaking highs. All other 9 ducks seem fine. I have put him in the coop with food and water, and shut the door so other ducks can't come in. Anything else I can do for him? I plan to check on him every 30 minutes or so.

Could you give a more exact temperature?
Do you think you could post a video of the drake panting?

I checked the weather in Eastern Ontario and it does not appear hot enough to be causing heat-related panting - since you mention he is the only bird panting this may be further suggestive of a health problem rather than an environmental problem.

Thanks for getting back to me. Our temperature might not seem high in comparison to other places but the daily highs increased by 10 degrees in just a few days. After an afternoon kept in the coop with his own water he is fine now. He has never been a duck to get right into the kiddy pools. That may account for why the others didn't overheat.
