I have had a male muscovey for 5 years and decided to get him a girlfriend since hes never been around other duck . First week or so was abit rocky bit all in all fine. but now he has ripped out quite alot of her feathers leaving a big bleeding fleshy wing.
She looks so sore. He has also retread to sitting on top of the cage which he has never done before.

Will he stop picking on her eventually or will I have to separate them completely?

Once feather or bodily damage occurs this is signs of overmating and they should be separated till the female is healed. Many with aggressive males will provide more females per drake or provide a bachelor pad and only place directly together when want to breed.

Welcome the BYC!

If he's been alone for 5 years, he doesn't know how to react to another duck. He is being aggressive and it might not just be due to mating. More ducks might help, but he just might be just as mean to them as well.
Did you do a proper introduction? Or just throw her in the pen with him?

I am away for another week and have someone feeding them for me. I might get her to separate them.
