Drake?

I posted a video last week but it was good quality due to it pouring buckets.

Here is one I took this morning. 2 Pekin ducks... paid more money to have 2 females, yet km pretty confident one is a Drake. They sound very different, one is slightly larger. The larger one picks on the smaller one and bites her on the head sometimes. Both hatched the same day. They are both about 11 weeks old.


What do you think? 2 females? Or 1 male/1 female.

PS they free range but this is the only way I could both get them to quack

You definitely have a hen (left) and drake (right) in my opinion! The whispering frog sounds are the drake and the loud honking sounds are the female

I hope you didn't pay a large hatchery for two females; if so I'd definitely say something to them.

Not sure about other hatcheries, but if you ordered from Metzer Farms I believe they have a policy to replace or refund improperly sexed ducklings. So as long as you payed for two females I think you should contact them for your money's worth. They've always emailed me back within 24 hours during the week.

If I were you I'd have my money refunded and keep the drake. Or are you in a situation where it'd be a bad idea to keep him?

As others have said, one duck and one drake. I just went through this last week myself. I had two drakes!

We have a very small fenced in area where all of our birds free range during the day. I heard that it’s not good to have a Drake around chickens due to the fact that if they try to mate with them it can kill them. We don’t have the area or the funds to build another area just for the two ducks. We really wanted the chickens and purchased the ducks on a whim, so I’d rather rehome our two ducks then our 10 pullets. I was hoping with two females I wouldn’t have to worry about this, which is why I paid more to purchase 2 females.

We also aren’t aloud to add anymore birds or else I would possibly try to order more females to maybe see if there are enough ducks that they would leave the chickens alone. We live in town so there are strict rules set in place.
