Drama in the coop

I built a roost out of 2x2 and closet poles as cross bars to perch on. The girls have used it all week. Today I put a nice magnolia branch screwed into the a corners about 4 ft. long and leaned the old roost up against it and OMG the drama. Marching back and forth at roosting time squawking in protest about what I thought was a great new big roost so there's no pushing and shoving at roosting time. They wouldn't go up on it!!!!
SOO I placed the old roost back where it was and in 2 mins they were up on it and happy.
OH well it was a nice try, They are so funny.

Chickens (actually all poultry in my experience) hate change. I have had pigeons refuse to enter the loft at night because I had changed the bedding.

I changed my roost a few days ago. Same situation as yours; Lots of noise and flapping and disarray. I decided to let them tough it out.

By morning when I went down to open the coop they were all in their new spots happily waiting for me. No drama since.
