Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

This is the only downside to it warming up. We hate mud season here. Too many paws to wipe.

Congratulations on 3 years with your pup. :)
, no mud here yet. still all ice and it is not melting fast.
no bare spots in the snow either.. not even on the plowed
fields.
it started snowing about six PM tonight. got about
an inch so far, at ten PM..

Lucked out here. At first, prediction was for a winter storm with about 4-6 inches of snow, then 1 to 3 inches. It sleeted or snowed all day Thursday, but was above freezing for most of the day, so nearly everything melted soon after it hit the ground -- except of course for that lovely, thin layer of refreeze that will make morning chores a bit more exciting than usual!

I peeked under the plastic wrap, and a few of my planted onion seeds have germinated! Now, all I have to do is keep them alive and growing!!

I saw a pair of red winged blackbirds in my yard yesterday. I was surprised to see them as generally when I see them we are warming up. Hopefully they know something I don't. Usually the robins show up first, and the blackbirds wait for warmer weather.

Well, there won't be any poking around in my garden for a while. Right after all the snow had melted, another round fell yesterday, pretty much all day. And, it looks like it is going to stay on the ground for a while. Fortunately, there was much less than the maximum 3 inches that was predicted.

My little onion seeds are germinating in their tiny makeshift, indoor greenhouse. I may just plant some more. A new Gurney's catalog showed up in yesterday's mail, and while I'm not going to order from it, I did get some ideas for seeds I want to buy locally.

Hope everyone has a good, snow-free week ahead!

it looks like none of my posts were going through
on byc. they had me sidelined because they don't
think my passwords are up to their standards.
we ended up with twelve inches of snow.
Annie called Bob and he came right away and
plowed us out. I didn't feel like riding on Ollie
and freezing my butt off. only 18F this AM//
I am making a kettle of chili. better get back
to it.

What's going on Jim? Are you getting any alerts? I can look into it if you want.
