Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

I took pictures of the jointer . but they are too close up.
and the jointer is lying on it's side. kind of difficult to
orientate . I will redo them.
we went to our favorite place for fish last night.
we ordered bluegill. we must have looked hungry because
we both got at least a double helping of fish..
I didn't have enough room for an after dinner old fashioned..
there are at least three gray squirrels burying black walnuts.
i suppose it won't be long before their babies will be joining them.
even with these unpredictable temperatures, the rhubarb
is doing great.

here's the best shot of the wheels that I have.
the jointer is lying on it's side on the table.
just a picture to prove that I wasn't just goofing off.

Good luck with those tomatoes, Lisa.

I am so ready for consistently warmer weather -- especially since my last trip to Menards. I needed a furring strip and a couple of square stepping stone blocks. I "accidentally" ended up in the garden center, where all the Bonnie veggies and herbs were on sale, in addition to the 11 percent rebate.

So I have plants that are being warehoused in the garage at night and hauled out daily into the sunshine. But my bargain shopping included two lovely heirloom tomatoes, as well as sweet pepper, sage, rosemary and basil plants. Sure, I bought seeds for some of those months ago. But impatience got the best of me.

Plus, it's easier to individually protect seedling with homemade chicken wire cloches than to try to keep baby bunnies and marauding squirrels away from whole rows of tender, little sprouting seeds.

We're only about two weeks away from the official "last frost date" here, fingers crossed, I will be able to get something in the ground soon (besides my Yukon golds which went right after Easter).

windy, windy, windy,
usually we can't hear the wind from inside the house.
today we can.
our newspaper was blown almost up to the next driveway
into the farmer's field.. good thing it was in a plastic bag.
Yesterday, we got our first mail delivery up to the end of
our wheelchair ramp at the house.. We requested it after
the mailbox got wiped out again.
we thought the snow plow did it, but we are finding a lot
of plastic pieces that look like they came from a raspberry red
colored vehicle. There was a piece way down in the ditch in
the deep snow. Somebody made the effort to wade into the snow
and retrieve it.. So, we figure it is somebody who lives or works
to the west of us..

I've given up on gardening weather for now. Too cold out. That wind is irritating.

Jim, so a hit and run on your mailbox that wasn't the snow plow? I remember the day when smashing mailboxes was a teenager prank. Nothing more annoying than replacing your mailbox. Your new one should be safe by your ramp. If it isn't you probably should think about moving.

not gonna move. just won't receive any
mail. I wouldn't miss it.
Annie found another piece of the vehicle
today.. It has serial numbers on it. I imagine
it could be traced to a certain kind of vehicle.

I can put up with winter. But this prolonged
spell of cold when it is supposed to be getting
warm , is hard to take..
on the upside, no mosquitoes..

Maybe no mosquitos, Jim. but it's been warm enough that I'm wearing out the swatter killing flies. I can't convince the dogs to hurry through the back door fast enough to prevent the nasty things from coming in.

We were under wind advisory again this week. I don't really need the weather folks to tell me that things are blowing all over the place and branches are falling.

Tomorrow, the wind is supposed to let up, and it's allegedly going to be both warm and sunny. We'll see.
