Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

when it comes to snakes, I am a whimp.
on Sunday DD Barby and her boy friend came here.
He grilled hamburgers. I didn't have to do anything.
I did smash the strawberries for shortcake, though.
the rain they predicted, never materialized.
right now it is sort of misting. My rain barrel is empty.
I rounded up two more rain barrels. both of them have
spigots.
two cannibals were eating a clown.
one says to the other,
does this taste funny ?

It rained, lightly, all day yesterday. Last I looked, there was between half and three-quarters of an inch -- not enough to ease the drought, but appreciated nonetheless.

Not appreciated was the destruction of my lone eggplant. It wasn't doing well in a large pot, so I decided to plant it in the goat infirmary where a squash plant was growing magnificently in the manure-enriched soil. By evening chores, something had completely pulled the eggplant out of the ground and ate every single leaf.

Guess I won't have to look up a good eggplant parmigiana recipe now.

So I guess I can't say good riddance to that vile vegetable? Definitely not one I like, and I like most vegetables. Sorry. Goats can be pains in the arse at times.

Now, I'll always think of eggplant as a "vile vegetable." Although I like it, my sister shares your low regard for eggplant.

My goats destroy everything, but this time, it wasn't them. The infirmary pen was latched shut. I'm pretty sure it was one of the gazillion other pests -- either those rascally rabbits or the ever-annoying squirrels. And, since rabbits can't reach the top level of the deck, I'm certain it was a squirrel that decided to dig out some of my flowering plants last night. I replaced the plants and included a "treat" -- a fair amount of red pepper flakes scattered onto the soil in the pots.

Rabbits can do a lot damage quickly to everything too. Not too familiar with squirrels. They don't stick around long in our yard with 7 dogs who like to chase them. Squirrels in general don't seem to like country living. I see more in town than we do our here.

I almost got some cucumbers. I watered them and yelled to them to get growing faster. Not sure what else I can do. I suppose fertilizer might help.

hi all,
my present project is setting up a gravity watering
rain collecting system. the plan is to have two 55 gal
barrels to catch the water from one valley of the roof.
I will connect the barrels to each other with a piece of
pvc tubing . on the second barrel I will have an overflow
today I will be hanging the rain gutters. there are two sections
in the corner. one is four feet long, the other is seven feet long.
wish me luck. I am working alone..
I am not fond of eggplant, either..
our doe came last night just before dark.
Annie had a dish of old popcorn out for the chipmunk .
the doe seemed to enjoy eating off of the picnic table.
then she moved to the comfry , she spent about an hour
browsing in the yard.

Good luck Jim hanging your rain gutters. That is more difficult to do alone. I have to keep filling my one rain barrel myself since we aren't getting any rain and I use that water for animals and plants. Hopeful today will be the day we get some rain.

I have the four foot section put together and hung.
Annie had to hold up one end.
tomorrow bro Dave will come and help me with the
seven foot piece.
I am not impressed with the glue they recommend
for the gutters.
I will end up caulking all the joints with some gutter caulk.
