Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Got quite a bit of snow here overnight. Hard to say how much because of the drifting. In some places it looks like a couple of inches, and another a foot.

Jim I'm guessing it will take a few months for the price of eggs to come down. They need to raise up new chicks. I'm thinking after spring and all birds are done migrating for a while it will all calm down again. I have plenty of eggs here and share them with friends and family. I'm pretty popular right now.

Same here with the snow and drifting. However, on the deck, it was just over 7 inches deep. I spent much of yesterday shoveling, and much of last night feeling the effects.

I guess we got a few inches. at least the neighbor figured it was enough to bother to come and plow us out. i guess whenever his wife wants to get plowed out, he plows us out.
the hot water doesn't seem to be circulating in the sun porch. the temp is holding at 43F.
went to nieces 60th birthday party last night.
lots of Feb birthdays in this relation.
I figure the price of eggs will be held high for a while yet. then they will drop the price and we will be expected to be thankful when they are just $5.oo/doz.
the number of chickens culled was just a fraction of the overall number in the whole country.

Too. Much. Snow. and Too. Much. Cold.

There are cold weather advisories for the next few days. I had to re-shovel the drifted-in parts of the driveway yesterday (and the places where snowmobilers had packed down the snow up by the road and road plows had heaped more snow). I needed to go to town because I THOUGHT I had one more bag of chicken feed stored up. I did not.

I will continue to sell my lovely eggs at $2 a dozen, provided I can get to them before they freeze and split (lost one yesterday, saved two). I try to go out once every hour or two to check, but it's hard to convince myself that it's worth it for a measly egg or two.

yeah Barb, I can't tell you how many times I thought I had feed left only to find out I was out
we didn't get any drifting here. but we are surrounded by wind breaks. one of the wind break pines broke off at the tip during the strong wind a week ago.
at $2.oo/doz. I should think your customers would accept a cracked egg or two. I know I would.
we ate many cracked eggs and we are still here.
I am thinking of making a loaf of hard crust bread in the dutch oven. (in the oven)
found an easy recipe.

We are having water pressure problems. Hopefully it's just the pressure switch which husband went to get a new one. Otherwise pulling the pump out of the well at these temperatures is not something we want to do.

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be just the switch. He was able to turn down the pressure so at least the well pump shuts off. Hopefully we get that warmer weather next week and it holds until than so we can pull the pump up.
