Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

It must be a survival instinct.
I wonder how old they will be before they get over it ?
We drove through the zoo on our way home from town today. We saw turkeys, wild geese in a field, a deer in a field and we had to stop to let two badgers cross the road.
Roast gosling is delicious.
I had it when I flew on KLM,
Dutch airline from Germany to USA

We have a black bear and cub on our land, caught them on the game camera knocking over the garbage can with corn in it.

Glad you got your pie, Jim!
good morning, I got up at four AM.
I thought I heard the water pump running. got up and checked faucets.
nothing, no leaks. It might have been Randy's AC. I heard.
we don't have a trail cam. I often wonder what goes on out there at night. We had a big black bear just down by the river. Had one in the yard a few years ago.
Lately there have been a few bears roaming through the streets of Wausau. Plenty of bird feeders and goodies to be had.
It is five AM, might as well make a cuppa.

I am also up, cat woke me kneading on the wall, apparently she was hungry this morning. One of the days to sleep in, and nope, lol.

Gonna make a cup here too, let the chickens out around 530, get some housework done before the kids wake up. Going to swing by the farmers market this morning, don't really need anything just like to browse and the atmosphere of small town Sat mornings.

Maybe a lake day today, the girls asked so we will see. Otherwise, I have some weeding to do and will have to water later this evening.

I spent much of yesterday trying to cut through weeds and grasses that had overtaken flower beds that surround an old swing set that, before avian flu, was used to hang multiple birds feeders.

I have to surround everything with chicken wire to protect it from bunny predation, and was removing the wire around one of the aronia bushes, when I spotted a small brown praying mantis. It's the first one I've seen this year, and I didn't want to bother it too much, so I left the last bush untouched -- a hiding spot for the little one.

Today, I plan to tackle the naked blackberry canes that are long overdue for removal.

Last night, I realized I have a gazillion small red spots on my left arm. I've either been attacked by tiny insects (entirely possible) or vicious weeds that don't want me to kill them (also possible).

Hope the farmers market had some good stuff. I'm up to 6 tiny green bean plants peaking through the dirt.

I'm really tired to watering everything. We MAY get rain tomorrow; at least the crunchy, dry grass doesn't need to be mowed this week.

Yesterday I took Ollie and hauled two tubs of garlic up near the house. They really needed to be watered. Containers always need watering.
I removed the skapes, but didn't save any this time. I pulled out about a half dozen black walnut trees that the squirrels must have planted.
Annie finished mowing this round of grass. and then we got an unannounced rain shower. It didn't last for long and didn't amount to much.

We had a nice downpour here yesterday. It was enough so I don't need to water today. Wish I could have shared it with everyone.

I'm feeling like a lazy gardener this year. @Callender Girl I'm getting exhausted reading what you are up to. :)

Not sure what I will do today. I will take my walk, than see. Getting too hot out already for me. Might just hide in the house.

That makes two of us who are exhausted :lau.

Truth be told, after I fought the blackberry canes this morning, I laid down on the sofa -- for a few minutes. I rarely nap for more than 10 or 15 minutes, a trick I taught myself when I was working many long hours at the newspaper. So, I was SHOCKED when I woke up about an hour and a half later.

The weather is so nice that I feel like I should be working outside. But there's a Yankees game on TV. Was never a Yankees fan until the stupid owners of the Cubs sent Rizzo there.
