Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

wait until the sun comes out to shovel.
we are too far north to be in on the next batch
of snow.
that's how it goes. the snow goes south, south, south,
then WHAM we get hit..
I keep trying to lose weight. but Annie keeps making
meals as if the kids were still at home. Yesterday it was
chicken drum sticks with rice and mushroom soup baked.
Today it will be shrimp curry.
despite all of her sabotage, I lost over ten pounds.

I managed to sleep until 5 a m today.
don't plan on going outside, chill factor is way
below zero.
I think I figured out Annie's strategy , she cooks
three big meals, then we have three left over meals.
so no cooking for three or four days.
Randy is still with us. Not a peep from the social
worker.
DD Brenda is a head nurse where she works.
She trains people to become caregivers. She also
know a bit about placing patients. If we don't
hear anything this morning, Brenda is going to
see what she can do.
It's not that we don't like Randy, but Annie is having
surgery very soon. afterwards she will not be able to
lift more than ten pounds. Randy weighs almost 200.
when he came here, he could still drive his car. now
he is wheelchair bound.
finished complaining, now..
I am not planning on going outside today. well below
zero temps , and wind chills..

Sounds like you're having a fair amount of stress right now, Jim. Hope Annie's surgery goes well and that things work out with Randy.

I can't feel my toes (Muck boots aren't nearly warm enough for this weather), but I survived doing outdoor chores. Could get up into double digits tomorrow.

And, I'm totally behind Annie's cooking strategy. I usually make a vat of something and reheat the leftovers until there aren't any. I was pretty tired of chili by yesterday, so I tried to fool myself by serving it over brown rice. Nope, still tired -- but I finished it off!

I usually get the job of making chili.
I like it sort of on the sweet side, I add a handful
of brown sugar. I don't care much for macaronni
in mine. I make that on the side for anyone to add
their own. I add tobasco and a little red pepper
just to my bowl. ritz crackers w/cheese spread
and I am good to go. sometimes bread soaked
with honey for a change of pace.
now I am hungry for chili..

chili is a selective taste. everyone has their
own idea of what it should taste like. it is
a matter of what they had while growing up.
I had some local chili that to me was nothing
more than macaronni in tomato soup. If it
weren't for the ho make bread, I would have
gone away hungry..
I put the extra chili on the porch in the kettle.
I imagine it will be rock hard this morning.
Annie chided me about doing that. but I
didn't feel like transferring it into a bowl
and trying to fit it into the fridge.
glad you found a nice place to work.
I have had jobs where I hated to get out of
bed to go to..

right now the lady from the nursing home is here
for Randy's interview. It is looking good, so far.
He will be with us for about another week.
I have friends who are talking about planting
their gardens and ordering seeds.. we still have
seeds from last year that we never used.
since I got my tractor back and I repaired my
tiller, I just might plant a half dozen tomatoes,
and maybe a few green peppers, and maybe a
couple rows of corn, and whoa !!!
